Balancing out an art practice rooted in Southern California as a native,  yet constantly in search of the next chance to explore a place with a sort of call back to the nomadic stylings of outsider artists and fringe adventurers of the past.  Cortes’ practice has grown from a background in painting where patterning and systemic approaches to picture making influenced early on from his years living in New York City, have evolved into a comfortably self-aware exploration process.  The natural world especially that which exists without much influence from the hands of humans has continued to drive much of the artists work. Now venturing into sculptural works utilizing recycled materials, architectural concepts, while still bridging a lineage of work, he is now focused on creating spiritual or meditative installations for all people that highlight the environments they live in while bringing back fragments of inspired artifacts from his travels.

Andrew lives and works, currently based out of Los Angeles, California.

He co-runs ARVIA, an alternative residency and project space dedicated to artists and the community in which it exists.
